Saryazd Castle, oldest safe deposit box: Photos

Saryazd Castle lies in a village of the same name in Mehriz County of Iran’s central province of Yazd.

Saryazd Castle dates back to the Sassanid period. It is located near the road connecting Yazd to Kerman.

It is one of the largest and most beautiful defense castles in the central desert of Iran.

The interesting fact about Saryazd Castle that it was not used for military purposes so much, and was mostly used as a safe to protect people’s properties against enemies’ attacks.

It was also used to store grains and food thus it was known as the oldest safe deposit box in the world.
